Itinerary
Arrival – Negombo
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Meet and greet by our representative. Short transfer to Negombo (30 minutes) for rest after the flight. Relax and prepare for your wildlife adventure ahead. Overnight in Negombo.
Negombo – Sigiriya Area
Travel inland toward the Cultural Triangle region (approximately 4 hours), passing through rural villages and changing landscapes. Arrive in the Sigiriya or Habarana area, surrounded by nature reserves and lakes. Evening at leisure surrounded by nature, with opportunities for bird watching around your hotel. Overnight in the Sigiriya or Habarana area.
Sigiriya – Minneriya / Kaudulla Safari
Morning at leisure or optional Sigiriya Rock Fortress visit for those interested in the cultural perspective. Afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya National Park or Kaudulla National Park (depending on season), famous for the incredible elephant gathering phenomenon where hundreds of elephants congregate around ancient reservoirs. Also spot deer, monkeys, crocodiles, and diverse water birds. Overnight in the Sigiriya area.
Sigiriya – Nuwara Eliya
Drive toward Nuwara Eliya (approximately 4 hours) through scenic countryside, passing waterfalls, forested hills, and endless tea plantations. The landscape transforms from dry zone to lush highlands. Stop at a working tea plantation and factory en route to learn about Ceylon tea production and enjoy tastings. Arrive in the cool climate of Nuwara Eliya. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya – Horton Plains
Early morning departure for Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and unique highland ecosystem at 2,100-2,300 meters elevation. Hike through misty grasslands and cloud forest to World's End viewpoint with dramatic cliff drops and panoramic views. The trail offers quiet wildlife encounters with chances to spot sambar deer, endemic birds like the Sri Lanka whistling thrush, and small mammals moving through the landscape. Visit Baker's Falls. When animal activity is highest and the park feels most alive. Return to Nuwara Eliya. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya – Yala Area
Drive south (approximately 4 hours) through changing landscapes toward the wildlife region near Yala National Park or Tissamaharama. Descend from cool highlands back to tropical lowlands, passing through rural villages and agricultural areas. Arrive at your lodge near the park, surrounded by wilderness. Overnight near the park.
Yala Safari – Udawalawe Area
Early morning jeep safari at Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve with one of the highest leopard densities in the world. Search for leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and over 200 bird species including eagles, peacocks, and endemic jungle fowl. Later proceed to the Udawalawe area (approximately 2.5 hours). Overnight near Udawalawe.
Udawalawe Safari – Departure
Morning jeep safari at Udawalawe National Park, well known for large elephant herds roaming freely across grasslands and around the reservoir. The open landscape provides excellent viewing opportunities for elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and various water birds. After the safari, transfer to the airport (approximately 3.5 hours) for departure, concluding your wildlife expedition with unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka's natural treasures.
