Arrival – Negombo
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Meet and greet by our representative with traditional welcome. Transfer to Negombo for overnight stay. Brief orientation about the Ramayana trail journey ahead. Overnight in Negombo.
Negombo – Chilaw – Anuradhapura
Visit Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw, one of the important Ramayana-linked sites believed to be where Lord Rama installed a Shiva Lingam to absolve himself from the sin of killing Ravana. This ancient temple complex has great religious significance. Continue to Anuradhapura (approximately 3 hours total), an ancient sacred city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit key Buddhist sites. Overnight in Anuradhapura.
Anuradhapura – Trincomalee
Travel to the east coast city of Trincomalee (approximately 3.5 hours). Visit the magnificent Koneswaram Temple, perched on Swami Rock overlooking the ocean. This ancient Shiva temple is believed to be associated with King Ravana and is mentioned in the Ramayana as one of the thousand-lingam temples destroyed by Ravana and later restored. Enjoy scenic coastal views from the cliff-top temple. Overnight in Trincomalee.
Trincomalee – Sigiriya – Kandy
Travel toward the Cultural Triangle region, passing through Sigiriya area where you can view the famous rock fortress from a distance. Continue to Kandy (approximately 4-5 hours total journey) through scenic countryside. Arrive in the sacred city of Kandy. Evening at leisure or optional visit to the Temple of the Tooth. Overnight in Kandy.
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
Journey to Nuwara Eliya (approximately 2.5 hours) through misty hill country. Visit Seetha Amman Temple, believed to be the exact spot where Sita Devi was held captive by Ravana in Ashok Vatika. The temple features ancient stone carvings and footprints believed to be of Hanuman. Visit nearby Ashok Vatika gardens. Also visit Divurumpola Temple, where according to legend, Sita Devi underwent the Agni Pariksha (fire ordeal) to prove her purity to Lord Rama. Both sites hold deep spiritual significance. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya – Ella – Colombo
Visit Ravana Falls, a magnificent waterfall named after King Ravana, believed to be where he bathed. Continue to explore Ravana Cave (Ravana Ella Cave) near Ella, where legend says King Ravana hid Sita Devi. The cave offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. After the spiritual visits, scenic drive toward Colombo (approximately 5-6 hours) descending from the hills. Overnight in Colombo.
Colombo – Departure
Visit Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara (Kelaniya Temple), an important Buddhist temple believed to have been visited by Lord Rama to atone for the sin of killing Ravana. The temple features beautiful murals and is considered one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka. After the temple visit, transfer to the airport for departure, concluding your sacred Ramayana Trail journey with blessings and spiritual fulfillment.
